So an earthquake has happened, and now your plumbing is not working. Where do you pee? Where do you poop? For those of you who cannot hold it in for two weeks, here’s a solution learned from years of attending Burning Man.
What can you do with clumping cat litter, a heavy weight plastic bag, and a bucket? Make an emergency dry toilet, that’s what!
Simply put the plastic bag in the bucket.
Pour 2-3 cups of litter into the bag. Clumping litter works best, as it will dry everything out for easy disposal. It works great to desiccate both pee and poop.
Now place a toilet seat over the top (if you have one) and you are ready to go! Each time you use your kitty litter toilet, the clumping kitty litter will create a dry little ball that can be scooped out of the toilet. Just throw it in the garbage, and add a little more kitty litter to replenish. Be sure to keep that garbage separate from your food, tie it off well and label it as human waste so that when services get resetablished it’s sorted correctly by the sanitation authorities.
As any cat owner will tell you, clumping litter works best if you clean out the clumps after each use. Move over kitty, I’m using that!
